A Letter from a Centenarian

Mrs Brett with Janet

Dear Mrs Parmiter,

I feel I must write and say how much I appreciate the life-saving service you operate for shut-ins by delivering audio books and large print books.   I am 100 years old and as you can imagine I am very restricted so far as activities are concerned.

If it were not for the doors that books open for me I would feel very isolated indeed.   As it is, I can listen with closed eyes to an audio book and be transported to happier times when I too could take an active part in life.

I am able, with a good light, to read the large print books, which Janet brings and that too helps to keep my mind alert.

The visit itself with the books means a great deal now I can no longer get out to meet friends... indeed, as you can imagine, at my age there aren’t many friends to meet,

Again, many thanks for the book and the lovely visit and chat entailed.

Sincerely

Helen Brett (Mrs)

When VCM Home Visits Library Service volunteer, Janet Watkins, visited Mrs Helen Brett with her regular delivery of books it was a special occasion.  Mrs Brett had celebrated her 100th birthday the day before.
