Insurance

Public liability and personal accident insurance is held by VCM to cover all Help Service volunteers.

Help Service volunteers must inform their insurance companies if they use their car whilst doing any voluntary work for VCM, and/or are taking the people they are befriending in their cars.  We are told that failure to do this can invalidate your policy and make you personally liable for any resulting damage or injuries.  The Bureau can provide a letter for you to send if necessary.

Confidentiality

It is really important to remember that all information given to you about someone, whether it is from the Bureau or from the person themselves, is confidential and should not be passed on or allowed to fall into other hands.  You will be asked to sign an VCM Confidentiality Statement.

On very rare occasions you may come across a situation where this confidentiality may need to be broken, for legal or moral reasons. It is vital to speak first to the Help Service Co-ordinator in this case.   You will receive training on this at the Initial Training session.

Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures

The welfare and conduct of our volunteers is of paramount importance to VCM.  Grievance and disciplinary procedures are in place to ensure that all volunteers are dealt with in a fair manner.
