Welcome to Volunteer Centre Merton Help Service

Volunteer Centre Merton has about 90 Help Service volunteers.

They can assist with the following:

  • Regular visiting/befriending
  • Collecting prescriptions
  • Adopting-a-Garden (user provides equipment)
  • Escorting
  • Dog Walking
  • Wheelchair Pushing
  • Reading and help with correspondence
  • Driving to opticians, dentist, hairdresser, etc.
  • Driving to visit a relative in hospital or to visit a friend
  • Driving for a holiday or respite care if the journey can be done in a day.

They cannot help with:

  • Domestic work i.e. cleaning
  • Personal care (eg bathing or dressing, giving medication, etc)
  • Electrical, plumbing work
  • Driving to hospital appointments
  • Painting and decorating
  • A service which can be provided by a more appropriate agency
  • Anything that puts at risk the health and safety of the volunteer
  • Anything that directly substitutes for a paid worker

If in doubt, check first with the Help Service Co-ordinator

We receive requests for help from the person themselves, Social Services, Health Services, their GP or a friend.  All are visited by the Help Service Co-ordinator. We then try to match the person with a suitable volunteer.

Equal Opportunities

VCM recognises that everyone has a contribution to make to our society and a right to equal treatment.  We aim to ensure that no staff, volunteers or users of our Help Service are discriminated against on the basis of race/ethnic origin, sex/sexuality, age, religion, disability or class.

I would like to volunteer for the help service and would like more information.

I would like to have someone visit me or help me. How do I proceed?

A client, patient or friend of mine is in need of help. How do I proceed?
