Volunteer Centre Merton / Merton Mind Joint Project (MIND)

Volunteering is an enjoyable way of using spare time, developing skills and making a

difference in the community. Anyone can volunteer and everyone has something to offer.

The Volunteer Centre Merton and Merton Mind have joined forces to create a programme that offers support to:

  • People who are enduring or recovering from mental illness or distress
  • People who feel ready to develop or rebuild their confidence or skills and have time to spare.

When considering voluntary work we recommend ringing Sue Bately  on 020 8 640 7355 and making  a  time to come in and see her or ask a social worker, community psychiatric nurse, occupational therapist or key worker to refer you.

As the recruitment and placement Co-ordinator for MIND Sue Bately offers as much support as is needed to get things started, from a telephone referral to a personal introduction. Once in a volunteering role, support will be available on an ongoing basis to help sort out any problems.

Support For Organisations

VCM is committed to supporting Volunteer Co-ordinators in achieving a balance between the needs of the organisation and the volunteer.  Our recruitment and placement officer (Sue Bately) will be pleased to discuss the volunteering roles you have identified within your organisation, to introduce a volunteer and to offer long-term support. We are happy to talk to staff about the needs of volunteers, in particular the issue faced by people with mental health problems, where this is helpful in facilitating successful placements that work for everyone.
