Felicity's Story

Felicity's Story

When one of Felicity’s daughters was involved in a serious road accident she stopped working to look after her and her grandson. It was during this time that Felicity decided to pursue her interest in the field of domestic violence.

She came to us and was found a volunteering role with Victim Support.

She completed a number of courses which included specialist training for Sexual Violence and Race Hate crimes.

Felicity then concentrated on working with victims of domestic violence only. A fulltime position for a Domestic Violence Care Worker became available and she was successful after being recommended for it by her Borough Manager. She has recently trained as an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor and deals with those people who are considered to be extremely high risk.

Victims of domestic violence are at their lowest ebb and most vulnerable having been subjected to physical violence and emotional scaring by inadequate bullies and cowards. Domestic violence workers endeavour to build up self esteem, give emotional support and reduce the feeling of worthlessness of victims and together with other agencies help to secure their safety and that of any children affected.

Tact and skill are required when dealing with emotionally drained and physically abused human beings-gender, age, culture and social backgrounds offer no guarantees of being immune to becoming subjects of violence-a difficult task indeed.

Felicity is responsible for the rebuilding of lives and de-victimisation of people thereby helping them to create futures to look forward to.
