Group Volunteering
Merton Youth Ambassadors
Help us promote volunteering within the community! Join our management committee and talk with managers and trustees on the development of Volunteer Centre Merton. Give talks at local schools or colleges to promote volunteering. Let members of Merton Borough hear what you have to say at local meetings and conferences about your passion in volunteering.
vinvolved Youth Action Team (YAT)
We are on the look-out for young dynamic people 16-25 who may be interested in joining the vinvolved Youth Action Team in Merton.
The idea of this is for you to speak out to your peers in your community by developing a creative communication - poster, leaflet, newsletter, DVD etc - that will attract more young people aged 16-25 into volunteering. You will also get the chance to attend events and meetings, speaking to various people and organisations within Merton Borough.
Two people from this team will then have the chance to further join the Youth Action Team as part of six Boroughs: Merton, Sutton, Croydon, Bromley, Kingston, and Richmond to further produce something collectively for South London.
Linking Communities
Bringing young people from different communities together in volunteering.
The Linking Communities Project is the development of group projects for 16-25 year olds to involve young people from various backgrounds through volunteering. You can participate in this with friends in the local area or meet new people! This project is run by Youth Action Co-ordniator Bec Yusuf bec@volunteercentremerton.org.uk and supported by Youth Volunteer Advisor Serina Kaur Matharu serina@volunteercentremerton.org.uk.
Projects
Mentoring Project:
Currently running along with the Youth Justice Team, involving one-to-one mentoring with young people who have offended or are in risk of offending. Volunteers have been trained to support younger peers. The training session has been a great success. Mentors are now waiting to be placed and get started. We are also hoping to create more scope in mentoring support through group activities later on in the year.
Children’s Project:
The Penguin Out of School Club have kindly taken on our volunteers to work with children. 8 young people were trained on the basics of working with children by Bec Yusuf. They also received training on Safeguarding Children from the Merton Borough Council. This has been very successful and we are very thankful to the club for their support.
